Hey there, my name’s Ed.
I’m a Colorado-based conservationist, storyteller, and creator of Mountain & Prairie, a top-ranked podcast featuring long-form interviews with innovators of the American West.
Born and raised in North Carolina, I moved West in 2005 and found purpose and meaning in the striking landscapes of the American West.
Today, through substantive conversations, voracious reading, and strenuous living, I seek to continue learning from the West’s wild places, nuanced culture, and complex history… and hopefully share a few useful lessons along the way.

From LA to NYC, Missoula to Houston, and many places in between, I host live podcast recordings and conduct on-stage interviews at conferences, festivals, shows, and gatherings.
ADVENTURES
I lead outdoor and conservation-focused adventures throughout the American West– educational workshops, ranch stays, and storytelling courses in wild places.
SPEAKING
I speak on a wide range of topics, including land & water conservation, the Strenuous Life, the pursuit of purpose-driven work, following a non-traditional career path, life lessons learned through adventure, and the power of optimistic storytelling.
I’m always excited to partner with like-minded, purpose-driven organizations and individuals who share a deep love of the American West’s fascinating people, wild places, and evolving culture.

“When it comes to the art of the interview, Ed Roberson has the magic touch. To every conversation, he brings just the right mix of warmth and wit, research and repartee. He’s a gifted listener, and has that rare talent for asking tough, searching questions while still making his guests feel thoroughly at home.”
HAMPTON SIDES, Historian and New York Times bestselling author of Ghost Soldiers, Blood and Thunder, Hellhound on His Trail, In the Kingdom of Ice, and On Desperate Ground
“To me, he’s trying to save physical land, but he’s also trying to create a new generation of like-minded people who will do the same, who will respect the natural world, respect the written word and choose their own path.”
DAVID GESSNER, Professor and New York Times bestselling author of All The Wild That Remains: Edward Abbey, Wallace Stegner, and the American West
“Ed was inspiring and supportive, enthusiastic and so knowledgeable. I went into this Freeflow journey with the beginnings of a memoir and quite a bit of imposter syndrome. I came out of it inspired, motivated, and determined to write, finish the book, then write some more…I also have more determination than ever to use my words, my stories, to fight for protection of the places that I love. I feel catapulted into a new chapter of my life, committed to storytelling and the conservation of our precious western rivers.“
SUZANNE STRAZA, Participant in Ed’s 2023 Freeflow Institute Green River Workshop
“Ed’s conversations about the West bring positivity and joy about the efforts that individuals are doing throughout the region to make a difference in their communities. Ed’s speaking at our event – much in the same vein as his podcast – left people enthusiastic about our organization’s work and gave a sense that we are involved in a larger community.”
SARAH KING, Executive Director, Altar Valley Conservation Alliance
“Ed Roberson has brought a unique skill set to our conference as we transitioned to a virtual format during the pandemic. His podcast platform and his top notch interview skills allowed us to feature our keynote speakers in a unique and engaging way. Ed’s ability to relate to the interviewee in a genuine fashion while carrying on a conversation makes you, as an audience member, feel as if you are sharing a cup of coffee at the kitchen table participating in the conversation.”
